CTS ceasing operations in fall 2026

Based on budgetary analysis and constraints, Academic Support Resources’ will be closing its Internal Service Organization (ISO), Classroom Technical Services (CTS), in early fall 2026. The Office of Classroom Management will self-manage A/V design, installation, and maintenance for General Purpose Classrooms, but there will no longer be an offering of those services for other University units.

CTS will not be taking on any new projects or service requests, but will work with current customers to complete as many outstanding projects as possible until the closure. Any work that cannot be completed before then and any new requests will be referred to vendors available through University-wide Pricing Agreements.

CTS was founded in 1999 in response to a tremendous need for bringing classrooms across campus up to a technical standard that included projection abilities. The work of CTS has been award-winning and greatly valued and appreciated by colleges and departments. CTS staff are skilled, knowledgeable, and do valuable work. The decision to close CTS is not a reflection of the quality or value of the work of the unit, rather that the ISO model for A/V work at the University of Minnesota is no longer sustainable.

Questions about the closure of CTS can be directed to Sarah Kussow, director of the Office of Classroom Management.
